Our Turkeys

We have four Turkeys here at Fairfield Animal Centre. They can often be seen strutting around, making a lot of noise, especially at feeding time!

Did you know that they change colour? Well, their heads do at least! You can tell a turkey’s emotions by the colour of their heads. Colours can change from red to blue to white, depending on how excited or calm they are.

BABY ANIMALS

Did you know that baby Turkeys are called Poults.

ANIMAL GROUPS

Did you know that a group of Turkeys are called a Rafter!

Turkeys make a variety of different sounds such as “purrs,” “yelps,” and “kee-kees,” but the “gobble” call is only done by males during mating season. As a result, male turkeys are called “gobblers” while females are called “hens.”

WHAT DO WE EAT?

Depending on the plants species and time of year, turkeys will eat roots, bulbs, stems, buds, leaves, flowers, fruits and seeds.
