Our Chickens
You will find a range of Chickens here at Fairfield Animal Centre. You will find;
- Pekin – Pekins can have normal smooth feathers, or can be ‘frizzle’. Frizzle birds possess a gene that causes the feathers to curl away from the body giving an ‘electric shock’ appearance.
- Buff Orpington – The breed was developed to produce larger birds for the table and better laying hens, producing more eggs.
- Poland – The Poland chicken (not Polish) is an ancient ornamental breed. They are unlikely to have originated from Poland, although one story suggests this.
